There is no burn ban in Garvin County this week for the first time since mid-August.
The Garvin County Board of Commissioners voted Monday to rescind the existing 14-day burn ban resolution, which was not due to expire until Oct. 12, after most of the county received several inches of rainfall over the weekend.
As of Wednesday, Pauls Valley had received nearly 5.5 inches of rain over the previous seven days, while Byars logged 3.96 inches, according to the Oklahoma Mesonet. Far western portions of the county received less rainfall but still picked up an inch or more at most locations.
Though conditions have improved, Garvin County officials are still urging caution when burning outdoors because vegetation is still dry.
