Johnna Faye “Snooky” Pharaoh

Johnna Faye “Snooky” Pharaoh, of Maysville, Oklahoma, was born October 24, 1931, in Maysville, Oklahoma, to William A. and Dexter Pearl (Davis) Balentine. She passed from this life on Thursday, December 29, 2022, in her home, at the age of 91 years.

Snooky was a lifetime resident of the Maysville area, and attended Maysville Schools. While in school, she acquired a love for music. She even once recorded a record. On April 29, 1949, Snooky married her best friend, Bobby “Bob” Pharaoh in Gainesville, Texas. She was a woman who loved God, her family, and friends. She was truly a jack of all trades. She could be found in a field or in the dairy barn, or teaching Sunday School to generations of children. Snooky loved ceramics, painting with friends and sisters and cooking amazing meals. She loved spending time with her family and was the matriarch who kept the family together. Snooky was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maysville, where you could find her on most Sundays sitting in her back row pew.

Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Mettry and husband, Mark, of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Michele Murray and husband, Carl, of Maysville; brother, Jerry Balentine and wife, Margie, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Amber Owen and husband, Jon, Matthew Mettry and wife, Maranda, Severin Murray and wife, Haly, Megan Mettry and husband, Shawn, and Kelsie McMahan; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Johnna Faye, “Snooky”, was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Dexter Pearl Balentine; husband Bob; an infant son; brother, C.O. Balentine; and sisters, Charlene Walker and Linda Madden.

Funeral services were held January 3, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, Maysville, with Bro. Brent Higgins officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com.
