Floyd Wayne Raney

Floyd Wayne Raney, of Maysville, Oklahoma, was born January 10, 1936, near Cox City, Oklahoma, to Bud and Esther (Stinnett) Raney. He passed from this life on Friday, December 30, 2022, at his home in Maysville at the age of 86 years.

Floyd Raney was a resident of Maysville for most of his life. He attended Sea Chapel School until 8th grade, then went on to graduate from Bradley High School, where he met the love of his life, Peggie Jolene Nye. Floyd and Peggie married on April 6, 1957, in Bradley, Oklahoma. After high school, he briefly attended Draughn Business School, then went to work for Garrin’s Super Market in Lindsay, Oklahoma, where he trained as a butcher. He and Peggie moved to Maysville in 1963 when he was transferred to the Maysville grocery store. There, he worked under the ownership of J.D. Williamson, Coy Wagstaff, and the Carvers. He was the beloved Garvin County butcher up until 2004, when he retired. Floyd and Peggie were married for 50 years before she passed in 2007. Floyd enjoyed woodworking, gardening, attending church on Sundays at Abundant Love Fellowship, and playing dominoes with friends throughout his lifetime, but nothing bought him greater joy than his family. He was a devoted father and Papa and friend to many.

He is survived by his daughter, Christie Puckett and husband, Joe, of Maysville; son, Terry Raney and wife, Cathy, of Oklahoma City; son-in-law, Robert of Kingston, Oklahoma; brothers, Buddy Raney and wife, Helen, of Norman, Oklahoma and Roy Raney also of Norman; sister, Brenda Slay and husband, William of Lindsay; grandchildren, Chris Puckett and wife, Aeriell, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Jocelyn Puckett of Edmond, Oklahoma and Thomas Holcomb of Kingston, Oklahoma; great-grandchild, Aurora Puckett of Midwest City; and a great number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Peggie Raney; daughter, Jolena Holcomb; parents, Bud and Esther Raney; and brother, James Raney and wife, Hilda.

Funeral services were held, Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Abundant Love Fellowship, Maysville, with Bro. Danny Gamble officiating. Burial followed in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, Oklahoma, under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville.
