On June 10, 2026, local treasure Adrienne Grimmett left our lives. She was born in Pauls Valley Sept. 6, 1942, to M.J. and Marianne Ewert.
In 1961, Adrienne married her high school sweetheart, Jack Grimmett Jr. They raised three children, Allison, Jonathan and Patrick. She was the best mother and wife anyone could ask for.
Perhaps what Adrienne is most known for are her years as the local librarian. She encouraged a love of reading in countless children, and her storytelling was legendary. “Tailypo” and “Red, Red Lips” are iconic Adrienne stories. She was also a prolific letter writer, and a single thank you note written by her to Mr. O.F. Warren moved him to fund the building of the library we all enjoy today. If you aren’t familiar with Adrienne from the library, then you might know her as Pauls Valley’s historian. Her knowledge and love of local history was immense. For years she wrote historical articles for the Pauls Valley Democrat. She also curated and managed the Depot Museum for many years, bringing history alive for the young and old, the locals and visitors to our unique small town. Through the museum, she became a great ambassador for Pauls Valley. Although Adrienne loved her roles as librarian and historian, her favorite role was Mimi to her seven grandchildren. They will always remember the fun and joy she brought to their lives through sweets, shopping, scary movies, sleepovers, seashells and, most importantly, lots of love.
Adrienne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon, an elder and a Sunday school teacher.
She was a two-time Citizen of the Year recipient, a founding member of the Pauls Valley Foundation for Academic Excellence, library board member and volunteer extraordinaire.
During the last three years of her life, Adrienne enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend Lou Ann and the special connection they shared. More recently, Randi, Becky and Lisa were added to this circle of care. The family will always be grateful for the love and compassion she received from these remarkable women.
Adrienne is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Allison Dunham (Kirk); sons, Jonathan (Mylaine) and Patrick; her grandchildren, Annie Dunham, Sam Dunham, Abigail Grimmett, Claire Grimmett, Jon Thomas Grimmett and Mitchell Grimmett; her sister, Ann Cloutier; her brother, George Ewert (Debbie); nephews, Andrew Cloutier and John Cloutier; nieces, Diane Ewert McDaniel and Valerie Ewert Byrd; and sister-in-law, Mickie Grimmett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, M.J. and Marianne Ewert; her grandson, Jack Dallas Grimmett; her brother, Phil Ewert; and brothers-in-law, Brent Grimmett and Ed Cloutier.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Pauls Valley officiated by Tracy Wilson and Rev. Chas Gowing. Services for cremation are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
