Sandra Sue Skirlock

Sandra Sue Skirlock was born August 12, 1937, to Alton and Lula Speakman. She passed away October 18, 2022, at her home in Midwest City, Oklahoma, at age 85 years, due to a short illness. Sandy was a resident of Midwest City ever since she married Arlie Skirlock, her husband, who preceded her in death. To this union, four children were born, three girls and one boy. Sandy’s family moved to Pernell, Oklahoma, when she was born and she lived there her entire school life graduating in 1955 as Salutatorian of her class. After graduation, she lived several places before settling down in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where she went to work at a legal firm which became the love of her life. While in Pauls Valley, she met Bob Garvin, an attorney, who became her friend for life. After moving to Midwest City and meeting her husband-to-be, they married in 1958, and she went to work in downtown Oklahoma City for a legal firm and worked almost every day until she turned 75, when she retired. Then she started in her yard and flower beds, and kept them beautifully. She was a very good crafter and made many beautiful things for family and friends. She taught her family the value of hard work, never giving up. She was funny and very sassy at times.

She is survived by her children, three girls, Melody Cook and her husband, Anthony Cook, Lisa Stone and husband, Gene, Erika Servantes and husband, John; one son, Kevin Skirlock and wife, Vanessa; two sisters, Jeanie Tivis-Price of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Debbie Lucy and husband, Roy of Ada, Oklahoma; two nephews, Rick Tivis and wife, Laura, of Boise, Idaho and Greg Tivis and wife, Margaret, of College Station, Texas. She also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, too numerous to mention. She loved them all. She was proud to be the Matriarch, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all her large family. She was loved by all.

Her memorial service will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2 p.m., at Barnes-Frederick Funeral Chapel on Douglas Street in Midwest City.

Her wishes were to be cremated and ashes placed at the foot of her mom’s grave in Elmore City, Oklahoma, possibly at a later date.
