Mel Joyner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Wynnewood, was born to Jimmy Dewayne and Mary Kathleen (Moyers) Joyner in Lewisville, Texas and passed from this life on January 17, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 59 years.
Mel grew up and attended school at Wynnewood, Oklahoma, graduating in 1982. He then attended East Central University. His childhood days he spent hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes. Mel loved chasing his sister, Jeniece, with a bull whip to “see how fast she could run”. On September 13, 2008, Mel married Tammie Richardson in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Mel worked at the Walmart DC, General Construction in Lindsay, Oklahoma, and the Wynnewood Refinery. In 2018, Mel retired due to cancer. He attended the House Church in Pauls Valley. In his spare time, Mel loved to fish, sit back on his porch, and shoot squirrels, sitting in his golf cart under the shade tree talking with his friend Dave who was generally on his golf cart. He loved OU football. Mel loved spending time with his dog, Baker Mayfield Joyner. It was special for him and Tammie to hang out and watch the 6 o’clock news and Wheel of Fortune together. He taught others to live life to the fullest, be kind, but don’t let others take advantage of that.
