Stratford fell behind early and couldn’t catch up at Frederick Sept. 25, falling to the Bombers 36-22.
“We came up short against a good Frederick team tonight, battling through a tough game that included five turnovers and struggles on defense,” Stratford Coach James Martin said. “We didn’t play up to Bulldog standards, but this team will not use it as an excuse. We’ll own the mistakes, learn from them, and get back to work on Monday. There’s a lot of football left to play, and we will get better together.”
At halftime, the Bulldogs were down 22-8. Bayler Black scored on an 8-yard run, followed by Gavin Haskins passing to Jace Cunningham for the twopoint conversion.
With nine minutes left in the game, Haskins scored on a 20-yard run and then passed to Zane Harrod for the conversion. The Bombers responded with another touchdown, but Stratford responded with Black scoring on a 40-yard run with half a minute left.
Leading rushers for the Bulldogs were Black with 115, Joseph Smith with 113 and Haskins with 51. Haskins also passed for 31 yards.
Grady Carter led the defense with 12 tackles and one sack. Trevor Wood recovered a fumble.
Stratford will host Minco Friday (2-2, 1-0). The Bulldogs opened district play with a 42-0 win at Comanche.
