Mallory Carter went 6-for-8 with two home runs, two doubles, and 8 RBIs to lead the Pauls Valley Lady Panthers to a 17-6 and 15-0 doubleheader sweep over Anadarko.
With the wins, Pauls Valley moved to 13-8 on the season and 5-4 in District 4A-2 play. The Lady Panthers currently sit in third place in the district, just behind Blanchard and Cache.
Carter was a perfect 4-for-4 in the 17-6 opening victory, racking up a home run, a double, four runs scored, and 3 RBIs to pace a 10-hit PV explosion. Elliot Owen went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and 3 RBIs, while Raegan Close finished 1-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
Lily Rowland earned the win on the mound, pitching four solid innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out five. Close locked down the victory by retiring the side in order in the fifth.
A 9-run third-inning onslaught proved to be the turning point. Close ignited the rally with an inside-the-park home run that scored Carter.
Carter capped off the frame with a two-run blast over the center field wall to build a commanding 12-1 lead.
Anadarko answered with four runs in the bottom half to stay alive, but Pauls Valley triggered the run rule with a four-run fifth.
Serving as the designated home team in game two, Pauls Valley wasted no time, exploding for 10 runs in the bottom of the first to cruise to a 15-0 shutout.
Carter highlighted the rally with a three-run shot over the center field wall. The Lady Panthers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the fourth.
Carter finished the nightcap 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs, and 5 RBIs. Close went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Daylee O’Bryant added an RBI double.
Jessie Caldwell was dominant in the circle, throwing four hitless, scoreless innings to secure the win, striking out five along the way. Kapree Clemmer closed things out in the final frame, striking out two and allowing just one hit.
Pauls Valley returns to the road this evening (Sept. 8) for a key district showdown at Cache, who currently sits just one game ahead of the Lady Panthers for second place. PV will then travel to Chickasha on Thursday to continue their stretch of the road across Western Oklahoma.
