The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers bounced back from a season-opening loss with a dominant 48-6 win over Central Marlow in their home opener at Wheeler Field.
This was the first-ever meeting between ECP and Central. While the schools had never met in this configuration, the Pernell part of ECP had played the Bronchos nine times over the years, winning only three—with their last victory coming in 1984.
Three different players—Owen McConnell, Carston Lauderdale, and Colt Matthews—scored two rushing touchdowns each in the rout. McConnell and Lauderdale both racked up over 190 total yards of offense. Colt Matthews and Trystin Maddox finished just under the century mark.
In total, the Badgers compiled nearly 600 yards of offense, with 435 coming from their potent run game. Meanwhile, the defense was stifling all night, holding the Bronchos to less than 100 total yards.
The Badgers will host Waurika next Friday, September 11, at Wheeler Field. The Eagles are 1-1 on the season after beating Velma 56-0 on Thursday night, following a 42-22 loss to Tipton in their season opener.
