PV man charged with assaulting officers, kidnapping after disturbance at tumbling competition

Caleb Meave, 32, of Pauls Valley is facing charges of assault and battery on police officers and kidnapping following a disturbance at a local tumbling competition Sunday.

Pauls Valley police officers were called to the Pauls Valley High School gymnasium around 3 p.m. Sunday in reference to a man harassing people in the stands at the tumbling competition.

Officers arrived and made contact with Caleb Meave. Meave exhibited signs consistent with someone under the influence of drugs, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

Officers informed Meave that he was under arrest and an altercation ensued. Meave kicked, struck and clawed officers as he was taken into custody. Two officers received minor injuries, one of whom was later treated and released from the emergency room at Valley Community Hospital.

Upon further investigation, officers learned Meave had been talking to young children at the competition. One child’s family intervened, and Meave moved to another location in the gym where he spoke to a 6-yearold boy before picking the child up and starting to walk away. The child’s parent and others intervened and retrieved the child from Meave.

It is unknown what Meave’s intentions with the child were, according to a statement released by the Pauls Valley Police Department Monday.

Meave is being held on a $100,000 bond for the charges stemming from Sunday’s incident. According to Garvin County District Court records, he was released from the Garvin County Detention Center April 28 after posting a $10,000 bond in connection to a March arrest and charge for possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
