Club news: Antioch ABC July meeting

On July 20, nine members met at the Antioch Community Center for the Antioch ABC club’s regular monthly meeting. Members present were Chestine Box, Gay Freeman, Ron Endler, Gayla Ezzell, Becky Armstrong, Mary Lou Parshall, Nina Rubio, Franci Fullerton and Carol Darrow.

This being July, one of our Garvin County DHS donation months, we made donations of money and clothes to the local DHS. Our next donation month will be December. Thank you, Ron, for delivering these items for us.

With the Garvin County Fair only a month away, we spent most of the hour planning our booth. Thank you to Gayla and Becky for volunteering to make the backboard and filling the booth requirements. All booth items will need to be at the next monthly meeting on August 17.

We will also be re-enrolling our members for the year 2027 next month. We hope all members will sign up and pay dues at that time. New members may enroll at that time too.

In other news, it was reported that seven people went on our field trip June 23 to Pops and the Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma. This was in celebration of the Route 66 centennial. Everyone enjoyed the trip. Our next field trip is currently being planned for November 2. It will be to Fort Worth, Texas, and back by riding on the Amtrak.

Our club received and read a beautiful thank you note from scholarship winner Jade Cook. We are proud of her and her many accomplishments and wish her well in her college studies.

Many refreshments were enjoyed throughout the meeting. On August 17, our next meeting, we will be filling out our fair entry papers and putting finishing touches on our booth items. Thank you to everyone for your help on these projects. It truly does take a village.
