QUESTION: Why did Paul say “no wine” for a man to serve as an elder (1 Tim. 3:3); but “not to much wine” for a man to serve as a deacon?
ANSWER: Paul wrote that the elder is “…not given to wine” (1 Tim. 3:3), and the deacon is “… not given to much wine” (1 Tim. 3:8). Note the word is “to” and not “too”! The two statements are emphasizing the same truth.
