Badgers overpower the Bombers for a 30-16 win

The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers played a tough district 2A-4 Frederick Bomber team last Friday night. The first drive for both teams stalled due to penalties. Neither team could get settled down and the yellow flags were flying.

The second drive for both teams looked much better.

The Badgers offense started to move the ball on the second drive and scored a touchdown pass from Tyler Martin to Damontre Patterson.

The Badgers let a Bomber receiver get behind their coverage, and the Bombers took advantage with a long pass play that set up a short field for a quick score. The Bomber quarterback ran up the middle of the line to tie the score 6-6.

The Badgers scored next with a quick pass from Martin to Derrion Rogers.

After halftime the Badgers didn’t field the kickoff well and were pinned deep.

The Bombers later scored a safety due to the Badgers bad field position, bringing the score to 12-8.

After the safety the Badger offense took over and moved the ball well behind the Badger’s big offensive line. Rogers scored on two separate runs putting the game away at 30-16. The Badgers ended the night with over 400 yards of offense, 127 of them passing yards.

The Badger defense played well, only allowing two Bomber touchdowns. Both were pass plays where the receiver got behind the Badger coverage. Throughout the game, the tough Badger defense never allowed the Bomber offense to get into any kind of a rhythm.

The defense pulled in two turnovers off the Bombers with a fumble recovery and a pass interception. The Bombers just could not figure out what to do with the size and speed of the Badger defense.

The only bad part of the night for the Badgers was late into the third quarter when Martin left the game due to a shoulder injury. The good news is it is only a shoulder sprain.

The Badgers have a bye week this week, which should allow for Martin to rest up. The Badgers’ next game will be Friday, September 17, at Carnegie.
