The Pride of Lindsay Band will compete in the state concert band contest at 8:24 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 at East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center, 920 E. Main in Ada.
The performance will be free and open to the public, and supporters are encouraged to attend.
The Pride of Lindsay qualified for state contest after an outstanding showing at the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) District 7 Concert Band Contest March 4 at the Jerome Westheimer Center for the Performing Arts in Ardmore.
Competing in Class 3A, the Lindsay band played “Moonlit Dreams” by Joshua Hinkel and “Spania” by David Shaffer for its concert performance. The band received the top rating, a Superior, or I, from all three judges.
The band went on to receive a Superior in sight-reading, too.
To qualify for state concert contest, bands must receive I ratings from two of the three judges for their district concert performance, plus a Superior rating in sight-reading.
It’s the second straight year for the Pride of Lindsay to qualify for the state concert contest. Last year, the band received a Superior rating on stage and an Excellent, or II, rating in sight-reading at the state competition.
