Warriors to play Velma-Alma at home this week

The Maysville Warriors toppled the Central Marlow Bronchos 20-14 last Friday night in the Warriors’ first home game.

The Warriors’ offense struggled most of the evening but managed to score late in the game when it was needed the most.

“The offense did not perform to the standard that has been set here,”-said Maysville coach Dace Lemieux.

The Warrior offense totaled about 250 yards, 141 of that on the ground. Bo Green rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. Green also went 4-11 through the air for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Nigel Reid rushed for 36 yards and had 6.5 tackles on defense. Karson Chambers had 85 yards and a touchdown, 4.5 tackles and a sack on defense. James McGregor sealed the game late in the fourth quarter with an 8-yard touchdown catch. He also led the team in tackles with 8.5 on defense.

The offense lost Kolby Wyatt early in the game to a targeting ejection and the offense struggled to figure out a way to move the ball after. The ejection will also include the game tonight against Velma-Alma. Coach Lemieux filed an appeal of the game suspension to the OSSAA board but the appeal was denied.

The Warrior defensive played well without Wyatt, holding the Bronchos to only 14 points. Bryce Shannon had 2 pass break ups and 5 tackles. Patricio Recendiz had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery along with 3 tackles.

The district B-4 Velma-Alma Comets come to town tonight. The Warriors will need solid play from the defensive front and secondary to contain the big Comet quarterback. The offense will need to step up and play well to bring home a victory. The Comets are 1-0 on the season after beating Empire 52-22 last week. They will be looking to bring another victory home tonight. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
