Badgers’ season begins in dominant fashion

The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers welcomed the Konawa Tigers to Wheeler Field last Friday night, but that was as far as the hospitality went. The Badgers scored 34 points on the Tigers before halftime and another 24 points in the third quarter, before they let off the gas in the fourth quarter and allowed the younger team members to get some play time. The final score was 58-6.

The Badger offense is loaded with multiple scoring options that no one should take for granted. The Badgers’ offense behind senior quarterback Tyler Martin moved the ball at will against the Tigers all night. Sophomores Damontre Patterson and Derrion Rogers, junior Hunter Burger and Martin all had scores against the Tigers. Both Patterson and Rogers also had kickoff returns for touchdowns. The Badgers’ big offensive line protected Martin very well all night and opened many holes for the backs to run through. Overall the Badgers’ offense dominated this week against the Tigers.

The Badgers defense is VERY quick. The defense shutout the Tigers until late in the third quarter when a missed assignment lead to a pass completion down the middle of the field that ended at the two-yard line. This gave the Tigers a short field to work the Badgers in, and they scored their only touchdown of the night. The Badger defense even got into the scoring mix with a safety in the third quarter.

The Badgers are a team with the potential to go far into the playoffs this year. The first test of the season is tonight, which will bring the District 2A-4 Frederick Bombers to Wheeler field. The Bombers are looking to make a comeback against the Badgers after their tough overtime loss to Wichita Falls last week, 20-26. The Bombers are a big and talented team who likes to play a very physical football game. The Bombers reached the quarter finals of the playoffs last year and are looking to do even better this year. The Badgers vs. the Bombers will be the game to go watch this week. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Wheeler Field.
