The Stratford Bulldogs and the District 2A-4 Coalgate Wildcats had their last scrimmage of the season last Thursday evening. The scrimmage highlighted a few key problems areas for both young teams, who each have many new starters this year.
The most common mistakes were illegal motion and illegal procedure penalties. The players seemed to be overly eager, with most making fundamental mistakes that will be easily corrected. As the teams seem to calm later in the scrimmage, the penalties decreased.
The Bulldog offense moved the ball very well against the larger-classed Wildcat defense. The Bulldogs’ quarterback and running backs saw plenty of opportunities throughout the scrimmage to gain yards. The Wildcats had plenty of opportunities to connect to their wideouts for large-yardage pass plays against the Bulldog secondary. The Wildcat receivers are tall and big and were able to jump up over the Bulldog defensive guys to make the plays.
Overall it was a very good scrimmage for both teams, as they were able to work on plays and personal changes.
The Bulldogs travel this week to open the football season against the District 2A-3 Christian Heritage Crusaders. The Crusaders are coming off a loss to Oklahoma Christian School last week, 28-12. The Crusaders are looking to get their first win of the season against the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are looking to get revenge against the Crusaders for the loss they suffered last year in Stratford. This week’s game will be a good matchup and an interesting game to watch. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
