Hunt for Heatly hospitality room cake recipe

Lindsay Hospitality Committee, I need your help.

I attended the Charles K. Heatly Tournament (see also our sports pages, this edition).

Lindsay did a fabulous job hosting this tournament: the games were exciting, the community showed up to enjoy the games, the cheerleaders got the crowds fired up and the hospitality room offered a variety of delicious treats throughout the three days of the tournament.

Friday in the hospitality room, there was a pecan praline cake. I grabbed a piece because pecan praline is one of my favorite ice cream flavors. This cake was so moist and gooey with a generous layer of icing and pecans on top.

The cake’s consistency reminds me of my mom’s coconut cake, so I assume this is a similar preparation method, but I don’t know for sure. My mother (aka my favorite Lindsay High alum) would poke holes in a baked cake and pour stuff into it and let it soak. (Now that I’ve mentioned it, I also need to ask my sister if she has that full recipe.) Even if this cake is prepped similarly, I still don’t know what the ingredients could have been to get all that pecan praline taste.

I searched online for “pecan praline cake recipe,” but I did not find any that resembled the gooey delight I experienced on Friday. A lot of the pictures online have sweet-looking icing, but the cake part lacks the gooeyness that made this particular cake so wonderful.

So, if you brought that pecan praline cake to the Lindsay Hospitality Room, please consider sharing your recipe. My email is underneath my name at the beginning of this column. I’m not the best at baking, but I can follow a recipe.

If the recipe is a family secret, then please consider making us a pecan praline cake here at The News Star and dropping it off at 210 W. Paul.

My tastebuds and sweet teeth will forever appreciate your assistance in this matter.
