Charles Ray "John" McNeil

Charles Ray McNeil, affectionately known as “John” by all, passed from this life September 29, 2026, peacefully at home. John was born February 16, 1940, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Joe McNeil and Rena Pearl Smith McNeil. John grew up surrounded by family and love.

In his early years he attended Hopewell Church and Brown Springs School. His desire for education led him to Lincoln School and Wynnewood High. John joined the military enlisting in the United States Marine Corp on October 17, 1961. He served his country until January 24, 1966, when he was honorably discharged. In May of 1982 John married Mary Washington and together they raised Chadrick D. McNeil.

John was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. He loved his family, his church family, fishing and riding around checking on his loved ones daily. John will be greatly missed by many for his stories, his daily visits and his love of western television shows and blues music.

John McNeil is preceded in death by his parents, wife and eight siblings. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons Charles McNeil and Chadrick D. McNeil (Vanessa); daughters Johnette McMillian, Sandra Jean Smith and Victoria Johnston; and a sister, Mary Wright. He also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Sheldon Williams.
