Ninth-grade students from Pauls Valley Junior High School recently attended a tour of the Oklahoma State Capitol and had the opportunity to meet with legislators who represent Garvin County.
The group was hosted in the gallery by Rep. Cynthia Roe, who introduced the class during the legislative session and later welcomed them to her office, where she provided homemade cookies and spoke with students about the bills she is currently sponsoring and co-sponsoring.
Students were also invited into Rep. Tammy Townley’s office, where she answered questions and encouraged students to consider serving as legislative pages in the future.
In addition, the group had the opportunity to meet Sen. Jonathan Wingard and take photographs with both Wingard and Townley. These elected officials further hosted the students in the Republican Caucus Room for lunch.
The experience was intended to provide students with valuable insight into civic responsibilities and a deeper understanding of the role of government, leaving them with a meaningful and educational perspective on the legislative process and public service.
PVJH faculty and staff accompanying students on the tour were April Brown, Courtney Green, Tatum Williams, Kayla Denton, and Kevin Driskill.
