The Missoula Children’s Theatre Red Truck Tour will roll into Pauls Valley next week, offering local children the opportunity to participate in a unique musical production of “The Pied Piper.”
The MCT touring residency program has been a recurring event in Pauls Valley since 1996. Sponsored by Pauls Valley Public Schools, it offers area children the unique opportunity to participate in a full-scale musical production featuring a local cast of between 50 and 60 children. MCT touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery and props and are cast, rehearsed and performed all in the span of one week.
The program is open to all students in grades k-12 in the Pauls Valley and Whitebead school districts, as well as homeschooled students who reside in the Pauls Valley school district.
Among the roles to be cast in this year’s production are the Pied Piper, Sara, the Mayor's Kids, the Mayor's Council, the Hamelin Administrative Team (HAT), Barbers, Cooks, Townskids and the troublesome Rats. Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.
Open auditions are Monday, Jan. 13, from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the Bosa Community Center, 207 Bosa Ave. in Pauls Valley. No advance preparation is necessary, and students auditioning should plan to stay for the full two hours. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions. Cast members will continue rehearsals daily throughout the week.
Public performances of “The Pied Piper” will be Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Pauls Valley High School Auditorium, 601 North St.
Admission is free, and donations are welcomed.
