It was evens versus odds at Lindsay’s Bronc Jackson Softball Field Saturday night as Leopardette softball alumni from classes spanning more than 20 years gathered for the Lindsay High School Alumni Game.
The community showed up in good number to watch as former players blew off the cobwebs and played even-numbered years against odd-numbered years in the fundraiser game for Lindsay High School’s softball program.
The “Even-Stevens” scored the first three runs of the game in the top of the second inning and never looked back, beating the “Odd Balls” handily with a final score of 12-4.
“We had approximately 30 alumni participate in the game along with one of the retired coaches, Warren Barnes, who came to support his past athletes. He coached the majority of the alumni during their time as a Lindsay Leopardette,” said Ellanee Moore, Lindsay’s current head softball coach, who is also a Lindsay alum.
Saturday’s game and the Homerun Derby that followed, along with community donations, raised about $1,400 for the softball program, according to Moore, who said the program is planning to make the Alumni Game fundraiser an annual event to be held the last Saturday in July.
“We are hoping to make it an even bigger fundraiser next year, possibly incorporating the little kids in it by having a baserunning contest or even a dunk tank,” Moore said.
Sponsors for this year’s event included KBLP Live, which raffled concert tickets and donated concert tickets as prizes for the Homerun Derby, and Southern Sno, which sold walking tacos and sno cones during the game.
Moore said the program is also currently selling advertising banners to be hung at the softball field. Anyone interested in purchasing a banner can contact Moore at eallison@lindsay.k12.ok.us or visit the Lindsay Softball Facebook page for more information.
