Water outages expected as towers repaired

The city of Pauls Valley will be cleaning and repairing city water towers over the next couple of weeks, and city officials say residents can expect significant service disruptions as that work is completed.

The work will include draining two of the city’s water towers so they can be inspected, cleaned and any necessary repairs made before they are refilled.

Work will start on the old downtown water tower Monday, July 17. Those repairs will deal with the stability of the structure and adding a new hatch. The downtown tower is not used for water storage, and its repair will not impact water service to residents.

Water pressure will be affected as work begins on the Airline Road water tower Wednesday, July 19, and moves to the tower near the industrial park on U.S. Highway 77 Monday, July 24.

City officials said residents and businesses can expect to have no water pressure or low water pressure both of those days.

“All water customers will be affected both days, just because of the hydrology involved,” Assistant City Manager Don Wageman said.

Crews will begin draining the towers at approximately 8 a.m. on July 19 and 24. City Manager Lee Litterell said the start time is designed to allow people time to get ready for their day before water pressure is diminished.

Water pressure is expected to be impacted for 18 to 24 hours on each of those dates as the work is completed and the towers are refilled.
