An Elmore City man drowned Sunday after the kayak he was fishing from overturned in a private pond about a mile south of Pauls Valley.
The Garvin County Sherriff’s Office was dispatched to a private property on Indian Meridian Road where the pond is located around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, after a family member reported Jody C. Moore, 27, had gone under the water after his kayak overturned and had never resurfaced. It’s unknown what caused the kayak to turn over. Moore was not wearing a flotation device.
Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett said multiple agencies assisted with search efforts that continued late into the night and resumed at daybreak Monday.
Moore’s body was recovered by Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s dive team in approximately nine feet of water just after noon on Monday. The recovery was made using side scan sonar.
In addition to the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office and OHP, agencies assisting at the scene included Lighthorse Police Department Dive Team, Pauls Valley Police Department, Pauls Valley Fire Department and Garvin County Emergency Management.
