A house fire claimed the life of a Pauls Valley man late Sunday evening.
Pauls Valley firefighters were dispatched to the house at 301 N. Ash Street just after 10 p.m. Sunday night.
Pauls Valley Fire Chief Mark Norman said the fire swept through the home quickly. Fire crews arrived on scene within two minutes of the initial call and found the living area at the front of the home already fully involved, according to Norman.
Pauls Valley Assistant Police Chief Derrick Jolley said the homeowner and his adult daughter were in the home at the time the fire started. According to Jolley, the daughter told officials she woke up, smelled something burning, and found the window curtains in a living area of the home on fire.
The woman alerted her father, who told her to get out of the house. The woman was able to escape, but the man did not make it out of the house.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending a positive identification from the State Medical Examiner’s office.
The State Fire Marshal and the Pauls Valley Police Department are still working to determine the cause of the fire, but Jolley said they do not suspect arson or foul play.
The Wynnewood and Rush Creek Fire Departments were called in to assist with the fire.
