Shea Thompson will serve as superintendent of Whitebead Public School for the 2022-2023 school year. Thompson is replacing outgoing Superintendent Lou Ann Wood, who announced in April that she would be leaving the post at the end of the school year.
The Whitebead Board of Education voted to hire Thompson during a special meeting April 26. Thompson has been an educator at Whitebead Schools for many years and also served as interim principal, prior to Wood being hired as superinten dent.
During a Whitebead Board of Education meeting Monday night, board members Everett Plummer and Belinda Hunt met in executive session to discuss appointing a new board member to fill the vacant school board seat 3, previously held by Ed Tillery. Tillery resigned from his position on the board at the April 26 special meeting. Tillery was not present for the meeting but tendered his resignation through a letter to the board.
After returning to open session, Hunt and Plummer voted to table the appointment of a board member until the board’s regular meeting in June, to allow more time to talk to potential candidates.
The board has 60 days to appoint a replacement, who will fill the position until the next regularly scheduled school board election, at which time the remaining unfulfilled term for seat 3 will go on the ballot.
