Stratford hires new police chief

Stratford has a new police chief this week, after the Stratford Town Board of Trustees voted to appoint Randy Minyard to the position during a special meeting Feb. 18.

Minyard is replacing Adam McMillen, who is leaving to take a position as service advisor for a Pauls Valley car dealership.

McMillen has served as a law enforcement officer since 2007. He was hired by Stratford as a patrolman in 2012 and was appointed police chief in 2017.

McMillen said he’s been considering making a career change, or at least taking a break from law enforcement, for a while.

“I love the Town of Stratford. I love the people. I love the school. We’re not moving,” he said. “It’s just a career change.”

The Board of Trustees interviewed six candidates for police chief during the Feb. 18 special meeting before voting unanimously to hire Minyard.

Minyard has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement and has worked for various agencies in Garvin County. He previously served as assistant police chief in Stratford and most recently has been a reserve officer for the town.
