Pauls Valley will be abuzz with activity next weekend, as four of the area’s most popular fall events converge on the downtown area.
The 2021 Brickfest, Pauls Valley Police Officer’s 26th Annual Open Car Show, Vintage in the Valley Bicycle Stunt Show and the 12th Annual Pauls Valley Marching Band Championships are all set for Saturday, Sept. 25.
This year Brickfest will feature a variety of vendors and several food trucks beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing through the afternoon. Vendors will be located in the Santa Fe Depot area and down Paul Avenue.
“We have a lot of great local vendors this year,” Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce President Nancy Runge said. “We also have several great local charities participating.”
Those include a booth selling handmade birdhouses, with proceeds benefiting the Samaritans Food Pantry, and the Pauls Valley Lions Club, which will be selling $1 beverages throughout the day and sponsoring a 50/50 drawing. The winner of the 2 p.m. drawing will receive 50% of all ticket sales. Tickets are $1 each or 12 for $10. Tickets may also be purchased in the following increments: $20 for enough tickets to stretch from side-to-side on the hood of any car; $50 for tickets running front to back, down the side of any car; or $100 for enough tickets to wrap any car.
The annual BrickToss Competition will take place at 2 p.m. on the corner of Paul Avenue and Santa Fe Street.
The dynamic Vintage in the Valley Bicycle Stunt Show will take place along Santa Fe Street with performances at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The 10 a.m. show will feature professional BMX stunt rider Rich Wieber. Wieber specializes in flatland freestyle riding, which is typically performed on smooth flat surfaces and doesn’t incorporate ramps, jumps or grindrails.
The 1 p.m. show will be a ramp show featuring Terrance Collins and the Vibe BMX Team.
Further down Paul Avenue, the 26th Annual Pauls Valley Police Officer’s Open Car Show will open on-site registration at 7 a.m.
Cost of registration is $20 on the day of the show, and all proceeds go to the Pauls Valley Police Department for training and equipment.
Car show judging will begin at 9 a.m. and awards will be announced at 3 p.m.
The popular annual car show includes 33 different classes of cars and usually averages around 100 entries.
At 11 a.m. the 12th Annual Pauls Valley Marching Band Championships parade route will march through the car show area. Pauls Valley Band Director Drew Etheredge said 19 high school marching bands from around the state are expected for this year’s competition.
The parade will begin at Burr Center and proceed down Chickasaw Street to Paul Avenue, then west on Paul Avenue to the police station.
Following the parade, the bands will assemble at Thompson Field in Wacker Park for the field competition, set to begin at 1:35 p.m. A new band will take the field every 15 minutes, with the final award ceremony scheduled for around 7 p.m.
There is a $4 admission fee for the field competition, with children under 10 admitted free.
