Oklahoma lawmakers who have fielded rising questions from farmers and ranchers about the state’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry held an interim study on related issues. State Rep. Dick Lowe, a Republican from Amber in rural Grady County, said lawmakers want to ensure that rules that are in place are equitable for all. Specific topics of concern had to do with such things as pesticide drift liability and medical marijuana industry effects on crime and rural utilities. Lawmakers learned about aerial application of pesticides and herbicides and safety requirements for consumer protection, about medical marijuana testing requirements, marijuana industry influences on property rights and ad valorem tax collections, issues affecting the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and more.
