Game 3 winner advances to State
Lindsay split a doubleheader Wednesday for the first day of the Super Regional Tournament.
The Leopardettes won the first game 4-3 with extra innings, and Alva/Freedom won the second game 4-3.
The Super Regional Tournament is a two out of three setup, so the Leopardettes played a third game against the Ladybugs on Thursday after press time. The winner advances to the State Tournament which will be Oct. 15-17.
In the first game, the Ladybugs took an early 1-0 lead. The Leopardettes responded to end the first inning 2-1. A Presleigh Gomez hit to the shortstop led to an error that allowed Gomez to run to third and Addi Dodson and Cheyenne Boatwright to run home.
In the top of the third, Alva/Freedom scored 2 more runs on two consecutive singles.
Peyton Serrano tripled in the bottom of the fifth, which batted in Dodson tied the game at 3.
In the bottom of the ninth, Boatwright singled on a ground ball to second base that batted in Dodson for the 4-3 win.
In the second game, the Ladybugs got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning.
The Leopardettes tied up the game when Serrano hit a fielder's choice to the shortstop. An error by the second baseman allowed Nacobi Miller to score.
Errors in the bottom of the third put Alva up 4-1. In the top of the fourth, Serrano was walked, which led Ryan Aldridge to score.
In the top of the sixth, a Goldbug error lets Dobson score, cutting the gap to 4-3.
Game 3 will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Lindsay.
