The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a Stratford woman died Aug. 20 in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 177 south of Stratford.
The collision happened just before 7:30 p.m. near East County Road 1610, about seven miles south of Stratford.
According to the preliminary report from OHP, Connie Fires, 41, of Stratford, was traveling northbound on U.S. 177 when her vehicle ran off the roadway to the left, then overcorrected back onto the road. A second vehicle, traveling southbound, swerved to the left to avoid Fires’ vehicle, but the cars collided head on in the northbound lane.
Fires died at the scene.
The second driver, from Sulphur, was transported to an Ada hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
