Wynnewood investigative audit report expected to be released Tuesday

The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s Office is expected to release its investigative audit report for the city of Wynnewood Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Wynnewood Mayor Keith Huitt said he expects the report to be posted on the state auditor’s website by midday Tuesday.

A public meeting about the audit report has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wynnewood High School Auditorium, 702 E. Robert S. Kerr Blvd. Wynnewood city officials and representatives from the state auditor’s office are expected to be in attendance.

The investigative audit was requested by citizen petition in December 2021. The petition included eight specific items citizens wanted auditors to take a closer look at, all allegedly occurring between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2021.

Those items included determining:

• whether utility records were properly maintained, utility payments were deposited, improper utility billing rates were applied, and if any of these actions led to the loss of revenue.

•whether a former mayor improperly used city funds to take business trips to Florida related to smart meters and whether she received unauthorized benefits from the company from which smart meters were purchased.

• whether a former mayor improperly used city assets to conduct business for her primary employer, Lumen Technology.

•whether sales tax money was deposited in an unaudited fund controlled by the fire department and used for inappropriate purposes.

• whether a former mayor improperly disposed of surplus city assets.

•whether the city enforced ordinances which were not legally codified, whether the city followed proper procedures in later codifying ordinances, and whether the city arbitrarily enforced ordinances against local businesses.

•whether the Open Meeting and Open Records Acts have been complied with concerning all city agencies, committees, departments and boards.

•whether payroll was calculated properly for police department employees.
