While there are no runoff elections to be decided in Garvin County next month, voters will see school bond and county sales tax propositions on the August 27 Primary Runoff Election ballot.
Voters in the Wynnewood school district will be deciding a $28.5 million bond issue proposition for a new elementary classroom building, a new band building, improvements to the agriculture building, softball and baseball field improvements including locker rooms and lighting, and renovations to the existing shop area and restrooms at the high school.
Voters in the Lindsay school district will have two separate school bond propositions on the ballot, a $600,000 proposition to fund transportation equipment and a $11.79 million proposition to be used for a multi-purpose training facility, playground and fencing improvements at the elementary school, auditorium construction and improvements and HVAC improvements across the district.
Voters across the county will also be deciding a county sales tax proposition which if approved would levy a 1% sales tax with the proceeds to be used for a new Garvin County Detention Center.
August 2 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in the August 27 Primary Runoff Election for Garvin County. Anyone who is a United States citizen, a resident of Oklahoma and at least 18 years old may apply to become a registered voter. Those who aren’t registered or need to change their registration may apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma voter registration application in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight on August 2.
Garvin County Election Board Secretary Gayla Dean said applications postmarked after that time will be accepted and processed, but not until after August 27.
The County Election Board responds in writing to every person who submits an application for voter registration, Dean said. The response is either a voter identification card listing the new voter's precinct number and polling place location or a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application for voter registration was not approved. Dean said any person who has submitted a voter registration application and who has not received a response within 30 days should contact the County Election Board office.
Oklahoma Voter Registration Application forms are available at the County Election Board office, 201 W. Grant Ave., Room 8, in Pauls Valley, and at most post offices, tag agencies and public libraries in the county. Applications also are available at www. elections.ok.gov.
