New venue for Lindsay candidate filing

Lindsay City Council candidates to file at County Election Board for first time

Lindsay will have three city council positions up for election this spring, and candidates filing for those positions will see a change in where they file their candidacy thanks to a recent change to the city’s charter.

In the past, candidates for Lindsay municipal offices have filed forms to declare their candidacy at Lindsay City Hall.

Changes to the city’s charter, approved during a special election last spring, however, now require candidates to file at the County Election Board office at the Garvin County Courthouse in Pauls Valley.

Lindsay City Manager Sally Jantz said the shift aligns Lindsay’s candidate filing process with how other local communities conduct the same function and also allows the city to utilize the election board’s expertise in verifying candidate forms and information. “The election board does this regularly, and they’re very good at what they do.

This just allows us to be more in line with what the norm is,” Jantz said.

The change was one of 12 charter changes approved by voters in an April 2025 special election. The changes were primarily intended to clean up outdated language and modernize Lindsay’s city charter.

The three Lindsay city council seats coming up for election are for two-year terms. The filing period will be Feb. 2-4. Candidates may file from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Garvin County Election Board, 201 W. Grant Ave., Room 8, in Pauls Valley.

The election is set for April 7.
