The Wynnewood Round-Up Club recently participated in the 2026 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Grand Entry in Fort Worth, Texas, and came away with a Best Horsemanship Award in recognition of their skills.
“It’s a really prestigious award to win, especially for a club like ours with a small number of riders,” Wynnewood Round-Up Club member Derrick Moore said.
The FWSSR Grand Entry is a more than hundredyear-old tradition that sets the tone for each of the event’s rodeo performances with a “colorful display of cowboys and cowgirls,” and typically welcomes riding clubs, sheriff’s posses, horse show contestants, charros and escramuzas, according to the organization’s website.
Wynnewood Round-Up Club members rode in six Grand Entry performances this year between Jan. 29-Feb. 1 and won the honor of the Grand Entry Best Horsemanship Award.
The prestigious honor is awarded to the riding club that demonstrates the best horsemanship skills over the rodeo’s more than 20-day run. Club members who participated in the Grand Entry were invited to return to the short round on Feb. 7 for awards and to ride in the final performance.
Moore said this was the second year for the Wynnewood group to travel to Fort Worth to take part in the event and they definitely plan to do it again.
“Last year we decided to step out of our comfort zone,” Moore said, and make the trip to ride in the Grand Entry event. He said the club only rode one day in the Grand Entry during the 2025 trip. This year they decided to extend their stay.
“We really hope it will inspire other local clubs to do the same thing,” Moore said. “It really was a lot of fun.”
Moore said the club owes a huge thanks to Rick Kutz, DVM, and Tayler at Raintree Equine for their help getting the required vet checks and travel papers needed to cross state lines with their horses.
“They got all that taken care of for us and did a really good job,” Moore said.
Wynnewood Round-Up Club members participating in the FWSSR Grand Entry events included Moore, Dianne Wild, Shelby Wild, Jacob Munn, Hatlie Dixon, Greg Hyde and Jeff McGee.
