Garvin County assistant district attorney arrested, charged with DUI

A Garvin County assistant district attorney has been dismissed from his job and is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after he was pulled over in Murray County for driving the wrong way on Interstate 35 on July 10.

According to court records, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper located Stephen D. Wolfe, 26, driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near mile marker 51 just before 1 a.m., after OHP received multiple calls about the vehicle.

The trooper attempted to stop Wolfe, who eventually pulled over in the median. In a probable cause affidavit filed in Murray County District Court, the trooper stated Wolfe displayed multiple indicators of being under the influence including thick, slurred speech and extremely poor balance and coordination, and that he was confused and disoriented. According to the trooper, Wolfe had no idea he was going the wrong way on the interstate and said he thought he was actually traveling southbound and was “coming from Oklahoma City.”

Wolfe was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and transporting an opened container of liquor and was also cited for driving the wrong way on a divided two-way roadway.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is due back in Murray County District Court in August.

District Attorney Jennifer Austin’s office confirmed Monday that Wolfe is no longer employed by the District 21 DA’s Office.
