A group of Elmore City residents circulating a citizen petition asking for a special investigative audit of Elmore City by the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s office has failed to collect enough signatures to secure the audit.
The SAI’s office was notified last week the group had not collected the 50 signatures required to request the audit, according to a spokesperson with that office.
The deadline to submit the required number of signatures was 5 p.m. Aug. 5.
Skip Mitchell, who is not a resident of Elmore City but has been assisting with the petition request and has said previously and a handful of Elmore City residents have been working on the particulars of the petition for the last year.
The petition includes a list of nine items alleged to have occurred between 2020 and 2022 that the group is asking the SAI's office to look into.
Mitchell has not responded to the News Star’s requests for comment on the failed petition.
