Nineteen high school bands from around the state traveled to Pauls Valley Saturday to compete in the 12th Annual Pauls Valley Marching Band Championships.
Last year’s event saw a slight dip in the number of schools participating due to the pandemic, but this year the number of bands performing was nearly back to pre-pandemic levels.
Pauls Valley Band Director Drew Etheredge said the contest, which includes parade and field competitions, went well this year.
“We have so many awesome people and parents that volunteer their time to help make this a great event for our community. Thank you to the many people who helped make it possible. I would especially like to thank the Pauls Valley Tourism Board for their continued support,” Etheredge said. “Coming to Pauls Valley has become a staple for many of these schools, bringing hundreds of people into our town. We look forward to hosting this contest for years to come.”
Lone Grove’s “Thundering Herd” was named Grand Champion of this year’s contest, receiving recognition as the top band overall based on combined parade and field scores.
