Proposed county jail to be topic of town hall meeting, Jan. 23

Garvin County officials will host a town hall meeting in Stratford on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. to discuss details of the proposed county jail project and answer questions from citizens. The meeting will be at the Stratford School Auditorium, 341 N. Oak Ave.

Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett is also scheduled to speak on the topic next week during an interview with Lindsay’s KBLP 105.1 FM radio station. That interview is scheduled to air at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

 

Hopewell Church, Inc. to host MLK celebration

Hopewell Church, Inc. will host the Garvin County 12th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. in the Wynnewood High School Auditorium. The free event will be a “Celebration in Song” and will feature musical talent from around the area. The Garvin County Republican Party community meeting is the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Christian Life Church, 820 S. Walnut St., in Pauls Valley.

 

Library Story Time

Children 4 and under are invited to come have fun reading, singing and crafting during Story Time at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., in Pauls Valley. Story Time is from 10-10:30 a.m. each Thursday.

 

Join Garvin County OHCE for lesson on bone broth, Jan. 16

Join the Garvin County OHCE Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m., at the Nora Sparks Warren Library in Pauls Valley for January's Leader Lesson: Bone Broth. The lesson, taught by Garvin County FCS Educator Julie Selman, is free and open to the public and will immediately follow the OHCE Winter Council Meeting being held at 9 a.m.

 

Free Tai Chi classes offered at PV library

Pauls Valley’s Nora Sparks Warren Library is offering free Tai Chi classes every Monday and Wednesday at 2 p.m. Classes begin Jan. 6 at the library, 210 N. Willow St. No registration is needed. For more information, contact the library at 405-238-5188.

 

New book discussion series to focus on Dust Bowl

The new year will usher in a new season of the “Let’s Talk About It” book discussion series at the Pauls Valley library. The series meets once a month, discussing a different title each meeting. This spring’s theme is “The Worst Hard Time Revisited: Oklahoma During the Dust Bowl Years.” The first meeting is Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St. The group will be discussing “The Worst Hard Time,” by Timothy Egan. Discussion will be led by Robert Greenstreet. Copies of the book are available at the library. 4-H Photo Contest to be on display at January Art Walk

The Garvin County 4-H Photography Contest will be featured at the Pauls Valley Art Council’s 5th Friday Art Walk on Jan. 31. Garvin County 4-H members will showcase their top photos from the year as they compete for the title of Best of Show in a county-level club contest.

 

Washita Valley Beekeepers meet second Saturday

The Washita Valley Beekeepers Association meets the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow in Pauls Valley. Anyone interested in beekeeping is welcome to attend. For more information contact Rick Bellville at 580-399-0656.
