Hucks resigns as mayor
Brandae Hucks resigned from her position as mayor of Elmore City this week. Hucks said she is stepping down as mayor for personal reasons.
Her resignation, tendered May 9, is effective immediately. Hucks was elected as Elmore City’s mayor in April of 2021.
“It’s been a pleasure caring for the citizens of Elmore City as mayor these last two years, and I pray good things continue for our little community,” Hucks told the News Star this week.
Elmore City Vice Mayor and councilmember Nicolette Haner will act as mayor until someone is appointed or elected to fulfill the remainder of Hucks’ term.
Haner has served as a councilmember since December of 2021 and was elected vice mayor by the council last month, replacing outgoing councilmember and Vice Mayor Tim Clark.
Elmore City’s Police Chief Jason Thornton is also stepping down.
Thornton submitted his notice Tuesday and will be leaving his position as of May 23. He is leaving to take a position with another law enforcement agency.
