Lady Badgers playoff run ends with Velma-Alma loss

Class A-B2 basketball playoffs continued with Regional play this week.

In Class A, Area III, Elmore City-Pernell girls won 40-35 over Carnegie in Carnegie. They advanced to play Velma-Alma at Apache on Friday. The Lady Badgers were eliminated with a 47-27 loss to the Lady Comets.

Elmore City-Pernell boys were eliminated after a 47-34 loss to Carnegie on Thursday.

 

In Class B2, Area I, the Paoli boys were eliminated with a 73-19 loss to Cement in Chattanooga Thursday.

On the girls side, the Lady Pugs were eliminated with a 55-24 loss to Cement Thursday.

 

In Class B2, Area II, the Maysville Warriors won 45-28 over Springer at Springer in the Class B2, Area II Regionals Consolation bracket. They advance to play Pittsburg at 2:30 p.m. in Tupelo. The winner of this game will advance to the Regional Consolation Championship at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. That winner will play the winner of the Tupelo vs Calvin game.

The #15 Lady Warriors played their first playoff game Tuesday after a bye in the District round, beating Milburn 44-16.

Avery Riley led the offense with 18 points. Other scorers were Allison Sanders 14, Jolie Summers 5, Claire Mann 4 and Sammie Jones 3.

“I’m proud of the way our girls began their playoff run against Milburn,” Coach Jordan Mejia said. “They came out with great intensity and effort from the opening whistle.”

Maysville will play #2 Pittsburg at 6 p.m. Saturday at Tupelo.

“We know we have a big challenge ahead in the regional championship against a very talented Pittsburg team, but we’re grateful for the opportunity - one that is a first for our program in many years.”
