State Track Meet results

Tay Bennett jumped six and a half feet to win the Class 2A High Jump State Championship.

The Wynnewood senior attempted to jump for the state record, but fell short.

“I tried everything in my tank, but it just wasn’t enough,” Bennett said. “Six foot 10 is my PR (personal record), but with my knee, I couldn’t get it.”

His classmate Gabe Maddox placed fourth, and Phoenix Sparks placed 13th.

“We have a new high jump coach who changed our approach,” Maddox said. “After we bought in and took it to heart, that’s when we started seeing improvements in our jumps.”

Wynnewood also had success at the pole vault, with Beau Britton placing fourth and Brylan Williams placing fifth.

“I feel I could have done better,” Britton said. “I still medaled, and I’m only a sophomore.”

Both boys vaulted 13 feet.

“I felt ready, but I came up short today,” said Williams, a senior.
