Maysville wins three-peat at home tournament

The Maysville Softball Tournament welcomed 12 teams to play for a tournament title, August 18-20, and for the third year in a row, the Maysville Lady Warriors came out on top as tournament champions.

Tournament play started Thursday with Maysville gaining a run-ruled win over the Bray-Doyle Donkeys in three innings with a score of 19-2. Maysville’s offense proved to be more than Bray-Doyle could handle, with Maysville scoring 19 runs on 20 at-bats.

The next round put Maysville against the Verden Tigers. Maysville’s Kelsey House pitched the victory, only allowing three hits and three runs through four innings and striking out five batters.

The offense was led in the first inning with a homer by Allison Sanders. The game was tied in the bottom of the fourth inning when Maysville’s Randi Marie Townley singled scoring in two runs to open the game up 5-3. House knocked the final run, scoring Allison Sanders to make the final score 6-3.

Saturday’s game had the Wilson Tigers facing off against Maysville. Maysville’s aggressive hitting showed throughout the game. Randi Marie Townley led Maysville with two hits in two at-bats. Townley, Gentry Wilmot, Kendra Joslin, Jolie Summers and Kelsey House all scored against Wilson pulling a 5-4 victory.

Saturday evening, Maysville played against the Mt. View-Gotebo Tigers. Maysville came up short in this one, narrowly losing the game 7-6.

The double elimination tournament put Maysville back against the Mt. View-Gotebo Tigers for the championship.

Maysville’s Kelsey House took the game in hand, pitching five innings, with one run on six hits and striking out three, walking one. The dominate pitching helped Maysville’s aggressive hitting led by Gentry Wilmot, Briley Wood and Leslie Wilmot, who all had hits in the game.

Wood led the charge in the bottom of the fourth inning hitting a double that scored Randi Townley. Kelsey House then singled up the left side by the shortstop. An error on the throw advanced House to third and Wood to score. The last score was on another Mt. View-Gotebo error that brought House in for a 4-1 final.
