Warriors play at Mountain View-Gotebo this week. Pugs play at Temple.
The Maysville at Paoli game was originally scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 22, but was delayed until Monday due to COVID-19 quarantines on the Paoli team.
Monday’s game started out flat for both teams. The first half of the game showcased penalties, a turnover, punts and a lot of turnover-on-downs. Neither team seemed to be able to get any momentum on either side of the ball.
At halftime both teams seemed to reset, and by the time the third quarter got underway they looked like they finally wanted to play some football. The Warriors got the ball first and put together a nice drive down the field, capped off with a Bo Green pass to Bryce Shannon for a touchdown. Nigel Reid ran the ball in for a two-point conversion to put the Warriors up 8-0.
The Pugs’ first drive of the third quarter was stalled by penalties and a fumble that was recovered by the Warriors’ Kolby Wyatt.
The Warriors took advantage of the turnover by scoring on another Green pass to Shannon for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was missed which made the score 14-0.
The Warrior defense then started to dominate the Pug offensive line and forced the Pugs to turn the ball over on downs on the next three drives through the end of the third and all the fourth quarter.
Karson Chambers lead the Warrior defense with 10 tackles. Kolby Wyatt had 7 tackles, two of those sacks. Kenny McCray had 6.5 tackles and Benson Larson had 5 tackles, two of them sacks.
The Warriors’ Nigel Reid rushed for the last three touchdowns scored in the game. The final score was 34-0. Reid ended the night with 140 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Green had 52 yards rushing, 9 for 12 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Shannon had 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
The game started out rough but ended with the Warriors playing well on both sides of the ball.
The Warriors travel to Mt. View-Gotebo to play the undefeated Tigers Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
