The Maysville Warriors traveled to Mountain View-Gotebo (MVG) Friday for their second game of the season. Historically, the two teams have been fierce district rivals, and though Maysville has moved to a new district, the rivalry hasn’t waned.
The pairing was the first major test for this year’s Warrior team, and MVG left them reeling with a final score of MVG 60, Maysville 12.
“It was a rough night all the way around,” said Maysville Head Football Coach Dace Lemieux.
The one bright side on Maysville’s offense was their ability to score two passing touchdowns in critical moments.
Bo Green passed five times on 10 attempts for 111 yards and two touchdowns. James McGregor had three receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. The team had a total of 100 yards rushing on the night with Green running for 60 of those.
Maysville’s defense seemed overwhelmed throughout the night but had two needed turnovers during the game. Kannon McCallister had 10 tackles and Kolby Wyatt had five tackles.
The Warriors have a bye week this week, with plenty of work to do if they want to reach their goal of a district title. Maysville will host its first home game against Alex on September 16.
