Thanksgiving season full of good news

OPINION/COLUMN

As we gathered with loved ones this Thanksgiving week, I am reminded of how much we have to be grateful for. This holiday gives us a chance to slow down, enjoy a warm meal and reflect on the blessings in our lives.

Scripture reminds us to keep a thankful heart, not just during the holidays but every day. Psalm 106:1 says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.” As we move through this season, I hope we all find a quiet moment to recognize the good around us, and the people who lift up our communities.

I am especially thankful for the progress happening across our amazing district! One recent example is the Pauls Valley Municipal Authority receiving approval for a $12.63 million loan from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.

This investment will help the city modernize crucial parts of its water treatment system and address longstanding infrastructure challenges. These improvements will ensure safe, reliable service for residents and help support the community’s future growth. I am proud of the effort that went into securing this funding, and I appreciate the OWRB’s partnership in helping Pauls Valley move forward.

We also have a reason to celebrate close to home. Lindsay High School freshman Dylan Rains performed in the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 27 in New York City.

Dylan, a talented piccolo player, earned her place in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band after being inspired by her band director, Shelby Lam, who marched in the 2023 parade. Dylan will also perform in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1 in Pasadena.

Her hard work and dedication reflect the spirit of our young people, and I could not be prouder to see one of our own representing Oklahoma on a national stage. And I know all of District 42 is cheering her on at the Rose Parade.

As we head into the holiday, I hope your Thanksgiving has been filled with family, friends and the simple joys that make this season so meaningful. We truly have much to be thankful for, and I am grateful every day for the privilege of serving you at the Capitol.
