Maysville official weighs in on propositions for Tuesday’s ballot

Letter to the Editor

Dear Maysville Residents,

I am writing to address the details of the upcoming election for the financial adjustment involving the Street Improvements Fund Resolution 5-2026. If the resolution passes, a one-time transfer will be made from the Street Improvement Fund to the General Fund in order to address outstanding financial obligations, specifically pastdue federal tax liabilities and state-mandated retirement requirements that have not paid since 2023.

This action is necessary to bring the Town into compliance with these obligations and to maintain our financial standing as a Town. Please be assured that this is a one-time transfer. There are no plans to make additional or recurring withdrawals from the Street Improvement Fund for any other purpose.

In accordance with the Town Treasurer Resolution 4-2026, the Town Board of Trustees would have the option to appoint a qualified individual from outside the Maysville area to serve as Town Treasurer.

This provision allows the Town to select a candidate with professional accounting experience, ensuring proper management of municipal finances.

Over time, it has become clear that the technical requirements of this position— such as ongoing financial training, accounting coursework and experience with municipal financial operations—are essential for maintaining accurate records and compliance with state and federal regulations. By allowing the appointment of an experienced professional, the Town aims to prevent past challenges and strengthen financial oversight for the benefit of all residents.

We understand the importance of transparency and responsible financial management, and we are committed to keeping residents informed of significant decisions affecting Town resources.

Cindy White, Maysville Trustee/Mayor
