As we wrap up the first half of this year’s legislative session, I am grateful for the great progress the legislature has already made.
Moving into the second half of session, our focus shifts to reviewing Senate bills here in the House. We received 285 Senate bills and resolutions and these measure will follow our same committee process.
They begin in policy committees, then advance to oversight committees, and, if approved, come before the full House for consideration.
As the chair of the Public Health Committee, which is a policy committee, we are at the start of the process.
Our committee received around 30 bills to review over this week and next week. I’m looking forward to leading this committee once again, and excited to see the good work that the next half of the legislative session will bring. Our next deadline for all of the Senate bills to make it out of the policy committees will be April 9.
In addition to legislative work, we had the privilege of hosting several events at the Capitol this week that showcased many hardworking Oklahomans from across the state. On Tuesday, we welcomed both business and community leaders for Chamber Day to discuss economic priorities and goals. We also hosted Higher Education Day, which highlighted how Oklahoma colleges and universities play a large role in developing our workforce.
A well-rounded and educated workforce produces professionals who change lives. Legislative Education and Advocacy Day is another event where we were able to highlight these individuals. This annual event invites social work students and professionals to come to the Capitol and learn more about the legislative process. The work they do is extremely valuable for the safety and well-being of Oklahoma, and it was a privilege to welcome them to the Capitol.
The last event is one of the more engaging events of the session: AERO Day.
This fun event provides us with the opportunity to recognize Oklahoma’s aviation, aerospace, space and defense industry, which is a booming industry in our state. With over 60 exhibitors, student outreach programs and industry meetings, it was a great opportunity to learn more about the projects they are working on and the future of aerospace in Oklahoma.
Once again, thank you for the opportunity to serve. You remain in my thoughts and prayers each day. I value hearing from you directly. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
