Robert Brent Grimmett was born June 22, 1951, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Geraldine Johnson Grimmett and Jack Grimmett Sr. Brent entered his heavenly home May 11, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 74, after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Brent attended Pauls Valley schools, graduating from Pauls Valley High School in 1969. He would attend OSU for a time, but eventually made his way back home to begin a 50-year career in banking. In 1981 Brent married Mickie Mackey Grimmett and together they had 48 years, enjoying life and raising their three children, Angela, Beth and Tyler, in the community he dearly loved.
Brent was a man gifted with a child-like soul, a grand sense of adventure, unwavering passions, a generous heart and honesty to a fault.
Understanding the value of community service, Brent dedicated his time and energy striving to make Pauls Valley the greatest of all hometowns. Following in his father’s footsteps, Brent became a Kiwanian, actively working to enrich the lives of his fellow Pauls Valleyans. He served, and ultimately retired, after 20 years as a volunteer firefighter. A member of the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce, Brent received the Citizen of the Year award in 2011. Inheriting the Grimmett gene for the love of football, Brent dedicated many years to the Pauls Valley football program.
Grasscutters, Bluejays and the Pauls Valley High School football programs were all touched by his love for the game. One of his greatest joys was watching his son, Tyler, playing the game, ultimately advancing to the playoffs in 2004. Brent also enjoyed coaching and refereeing elementary wrestling.
Brent was a faithful member of the Pauls Valley United Methodist Church, since his baptism in 1951, then his confirmation in 1964. He served on the committees of finance and trustees.
Brent loved and excelled in waterskiing, barefoot waterskiing, snow skiing and flying in the air like a bird. He bought his first Delta Wing Kite in California, and built his own Quicksilver Ultra-light motorized kite, and was often seen buzzing over rodeos, firework shows and over various lakes in Oklahoma. He knew no fear!
Brent loved days and evenings zipping across Lake Arbuckle, in the fastest boat on the water, while listening to his favorite tunes and enjoying his family.
Many of Brent’s hours were spent at the family farm. He loved planting and cultivating crops and driving the tractor. His joy was driving to the farm east of town to admire their hard work.
Brent adored his family. He was in awe of their talents and accomplishments, their work ethic and especially the grandchildren they gifted him.
Brent’s later years were spent enjoying his grandkids, Maddie, Memphis, Louie and Maverick, chauffeuring his pups around town and traveling. Though he would have preferred staying home in his favorite hometown, he and Mickie traveled the world seeing more of God’s creation.
Brent’s fame came late in life when he learned how to synchronize thousands of twinkle lights to Christmas music. He and his daughter, Beth, created an amazing Christmas light show and shared it with the community for 13 years. His eyes sparkled as he watched kids dancing in the yard as lines of cars stopped to enjoy his hard work.
Brent is survived by his wife, Micki Grimmett of Pauls Valley, and his children, Angela Grimmett of Edmond, Oklahoma; Lauren Beth Grimmett-Tankersley of Seattle, Washington and New York City; and Tyler Grimmett and his wife, Spyce of Norman, Oklahoma. Poppy leaves behind his four favorite people, his grandchildren, Maddie Horning of Washington, D.C.; Memphis and Louie Grimmett of Norman, Oklahoma; and Maverick Beeson of Norman, Oklahoma.
Brent is outlived by his brother, Jack Grimmett Jr. and his wife, Adrienne Grimmett, of Pauls Valley; his sister-in-law, Renee’ Myler of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; a niece, Allison Dunham, and nephews, Jonathan and Patrick Grimmett, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; as well as cousins, and many friends.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Grimmett Sr. and Geraldine Grimmett.
