Peggy Gail (Bates) Helm was born June 16, 1944, and passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. Peggy was born, raised and attended school in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She lived and worked in the Pauls Valley area most of her life.
Peggy enjoyed working and had a diverse career; she definitely was a people person. She worked as a carhop for Ballard’s and the A&W Drive In while in her teens. Later, she attended beauty school and was a beautician at Nina’s Hair Salon. She also worked as City Planner for Pauls Valley, then the City of Purcell. After her children were grown, she worked at a local bank. She also purchased and ran The Swap Shop. Peggy changed careers again later in life and was dedicated to being a CMA and adult home care giver for many years. Peggy enjoyed life and was blessed with family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Finwick Bates and Sallie Elise (Elam) Bates; her four brothers, Charles Edward Bates, Harry Harvey Bates, Jerry Don Bates and Ronnie Lee Bates; daughter, Shara Kay (Helm) Rogers; son, James Richard (Jimbo) Helm Jr.; grandsons, Jacob Keith (Jake) Bittle and James Richard (Trey) Helm III; and granddaughter, Brittney Michele Rogers.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bittle and husband Keith; granddaughters, Shatona Gallup and husband Jason, and Brielle Hatter and husband Robbie, all of Stratford; son-in-law, Mike Rogers; grandson, Brandon Rogers; daughter-in-law, Paige Helm; granddaughter, Myla Ashton Sprabery and husband Tyler, all of Byars; two sister-in-laws, Linda Bates and Sue Bates; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m at the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. Interment will be immediately following the service at Byars Cemetery in Byars, Okla.
